Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

  • Q: Why plan a funeral in advance?

A: By planning in advance, you can make informed choices, compare prices and options, and discuss your preferences with your family. The result can be peace of mind for yourself and your loved ones. We plan for so many things that may happen in life, shouldn’t we plan for something that 100% will happen?

  • Q: What options are available?

A: Options include a traditional funeral service, memorial service, burial, entombment, cremation, and inurnment. Exploring these options beforehand helps you decide what is best for you and your family.

  • Q: What type of funeral services exist?

A: Funeral practices are influenced by religious and cultural traditions, cost, and personal preferences. These factors help determine if the service is elaborate or simple, public or private, religious or secular, and where it will be held. They can also influence if the decedent will be present for services, if the casket will be opened or closed, and even if the remains will be buried or cremated.

  • Q: What type of service should I plan?

A: Only you can answer that question. Services are usually held at a place or worship or a funeral home, and the service may vary in ritual depending upon religious denomination or personal wishes. The type of service, if not noted in a pre-plan, will be decided by the decedent’s family.

  • Q: Do you work with all faiths and lifestyles?

A: Yes. I assist all faiths, traditions, and walks of life. My role is to listen, understand your wishes, and ensure a plan that reflects what matters most to you, whether that’s religious customs, cultural traditions, or simply personal preferences.

  • Q: After I decide on my preneed arrangements, what should I do?

A: You should create a written preneed plan. A variety of planning guides are available for you to fill out to keep and share with your family.

  • Q: Is this only for older people?

A: No. Many people in their 40s and 50s are starting this conversation, especially those caring for both parents and kids, sometimes referred to as the sandwich generation.

  • Q: Can I change my plan later?

A: Yes! Your plan is fully adjustable as life circumstances change.

  • Q: Can my arrangements be changed by someone else before or after my death?

A: Only you can make changes to your arrangements before they are needed. If your instructions are clear and you’ve made provisions to pay for the costs, your survivors cannot make changes. Survivors can make changes only if your documents allow changes or if the arrangements are incomplete, unclear, or not fully paid for.

  • Q: What does pre-planning include?

A: Pre-planning can include cemetery space, funeral arrangements, cremation options, and the documentation that ensures your wishes are honored. It does not include third party services such as flower arrangements, death certificates, clergy honorarium, or funeral escorts.

  • Q: Should I pay for my preneed choices ahead of time?

A: It is recommended. Prepaying spares your survivors the burden of arranging payment. It also keeps you in control of the costs and ensures that your wishes can and will be carried out.

  • Q: Do I have to pay in full now?

A: Not at all. Flexible payment plans and no interest financing options are available to help you find a plan that fits you best.

  • Q: What if I move out of the area?

A: Through a nationwide network of locations, your plan is able to move with you, wherever you go within the United States.

  • Q: What if I die while traveling?

A: There is a plan option available to make sure your remains are safely transferred from any location within the US back to the funeral home handling your services at no additional cost to your family.

  • Q: Do veterans get special discounts?

A: In many cases, yes! Members of Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion qualify for a standard 10% discount on products and services, and if you're working with the VA, there are several benefits available there as well.
